Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association offers POST Mandated Courses on MNLET

Through MNLET, we are able to offer a variety of courses to fulfill the POST mandates in the three mandated categories of:

  • Cultural Diversity and Implicit Bias
  • Conflict Management and Mediation
  • Crisis Intervention and Mental Illness Crises – including officer wellness
  • Autism will be required starting in the renewal period July 1, 2021.  MSA will be developing a course.

Mental Health CIT Courses

The completion of each module will lead to its own certificate.  There will be a series of 24 eLearning modules to complement the in person training through MN CIT. The modules will be added as they become available.

We are pleased to announce the completion of the first three courses in a series of 24 hours of eLearning courses for first responders providing information and training on how to handle a person in a mental health crisis safely and compassionately.  These courses were made in partnership with MSA, IAPS, MN CIT and South Dakota CIT.  They are currently free for the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association on the MNLET eLearning platform through 2021. CLICK HERE for an overview of the courses currently available.

Upon completion of the 24 eLearning courses, learners will have the opportunity to participate (for a fee) in a 16 hour in person scenario based training to complete their 40-hour CIT certification.

The learning objectives in this series of courses are:

  • Understanding of major and severe forms of mental illness
  • Develop a practical assessment plan working with people in crisis
  • Learning specific intervention techniques for working with people in crisis
  • Addressing safety issues in dealing with people in crisis
