Together in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Federal Protective Service, Major County Sheriffs of America, National Sheriffs Association, International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts, APCO International, and many other of our state and local law enforcement partners, the DHS Office for State and Local Law Enforcement (OSLLE) is excited to announce the Swatting Awareness Video for Law Enforcement series. Designed to educate law enforcement and subcommunities about swatting incidents and how to mitigate their harmful events through the series, this video series is tailored to command staff and other decision makers in law enforcement agencies. Swatting is a malicious act that involves false crisis reports to emergency services.
Videos include:
Swatting 101 for SLTTC Law Enforcement: This introductory video provides all law enforcement personnel with foundational awareness of what swatting is, why it is dangerous, how it affects communities and responders, and how education, information sharing, and coordinated reporting can help reduce its intended impact.
Swatting Considerations for Decision Makers: This video helps command staff and law enforcement decision makers understand high-level swatting indicators, response considerations, and the importance of situational awareness when determining how to respond to reported threats of violence.
Swatting Indicators for Public Safety Telecommunicators: This video supports 911 dispatchers and supervisors by highlighting common indicators of potential swatting calls and emphasizing the value of careful questioning, supervisor coordination, and timely communication with decision makers.
Targets of Swatting and Proactive Engagement: This video helps law enforcement personnel and command staff identify individuals and institutions that may be more vulnerable to swatting and explains how proactive outreach, preparedness, and information sharing can help reduce risk and improve response coordination.
Investigating Swatting Events: This video introduces SLTTC investigators to key investigative considerations for swatting incidents, including preserving information, coordinating with fusion centers and federal partners, and documenting impacts to support follow-on investigative activity.
