Module Overview
In this module we take a deeper look into Emotional Intelligence with explanations on why practicing Emotional Intelligence is critical as a public safety and leadership skill.
To compliment this course, you may wish to order and read the book “Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ” by Dr. Daniel Goleman.
Module Objectives
Upon successful completion of this module students should be able to:
- Describe Salovey’s 5 Elements of Emotional Intelligence.
- Distinguish Rational Reactions from Emotional Reactions.
- Understand the strategy of providing feedback and how it relates to Emotional Intelligence.
The Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association is a continuing education sponsor as approved by the Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training. This course, Emotional Intelligence 09053-00614, has been approved by the POST Board for continuing education credit. Peace officers who successfully complete this course will receive three (3) hours of continuing education.
This course is approved for three (3) hours under the mandated category of Conflict Management and Mediation.
