Module Overview This module addresses one of the most challenging aspects of law enforcement and public safety – the ability to proactively communicate with our employees, peers and the citizens that we serve.  The instructor provides valuable insight into concepts, techniques, and exercises that stress communicating proactively and in a manner that ensures true understanding. 

Module Objectives Upon successful completion of this module student should be able to:

  • Understand the elements of communication.
  • Understand the key communication maxims.
  • Under the Dimension-Control Matrix as it relates to proactive communication in the heat of chaos.

The Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association is a continuing education sponsor as approved by the Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training. This course, Proactive Communication 09053-00645, has been approved by the POST Board for continuing education credit. Peace officers who successfully complete this course will receive two (2) hours of continuing education.

This course is approved for two (2) hours under the mandated category of Conflict Management and Mediation.
